had took place on September 27th, 2003 in Yerevan in Congress
Hotel. More that 70 FARFAA and Salzburg Program alumni participated
in the Meeting. The chairman was Dr. R.Fanarjyan, FARFAA board
member The meeting started with the Opening Ceremony and welcome speech by the Chairman. It was followed by:
SEMINAR: Congenital Dislocation of the Hip The Department of Orthopaedics of Hayq Medical Centre, FAR FAA-Salzburg Medical Programs and the Armenian Medical Association invite pediatricians, neonatologists, paediatric neurologists of Yerevan policlinics, orthopedic, trauma and other surgeons, and other interested parties to take part on a seminar on Congenital Dislocation of the Hip, which will take place at Hayq Medical Center's auditorium on July 9, 2003, at 3PM.
June 5, 2003: Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan,
local seminar coordinator for Armenia, had a meeting with Dr.
Wolfgang Aulitzky, the American Austrian Foundation Medical Director,
and Mrs. Katharine Eltz-Aulitzky, the Executive Director. They
discussed the possibility of a sattelite symposium in Armenia

PRESS RELEASES Plastic Reconstructive Surgery & Microsurgery University Centre: Hand Seminar Series: Surgery and Rehabilitation of the Upper Extremity
On September 18, 2003, FAR FAA- Salzburg Medical Program held a seminar on Bladder Cancer, which comprehensively discussed the topic. The seminar's faculty was represented by Dr. Ara Sargsyan, a 2003 Salzburg Seminar Participant in Urology , and Dr. Vigen Chalyan, a visiting urologist from the USA. The seminars were hosted by the Department of Family Medicine of Yerevan State Medical University. Information support was provided by the Armenian Medical Association (http://www.armeda.am), the Fund for Armenian Reliefs Fellows Alumni Association and Salzburg fellows (FARFAA-Salzburg, http://www.farfaa-salzburg.am). Printed materials were sponsored by the FARFAA-Salzburg. About 20 urologists attended the seminar. In the end, all participants filled in a brief questionnaire to assess their satisfaction and comments. Dr. Michael Narimanov, Head of the Department of Family Medicine, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing seminars of the organization. He said that he hopes that more seminars will be organized in the near future and his agreement to further host those.

SEMINAR REPORT On June 25, 2003, FAR FAA-Salzburg Medical Program held a seminar SARS - the newest data. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Alina Aznauryan - Salzburg Seminar Participant on Infectious Diseases, April, 2003, and comprehensively discussed the issues concerning the latest data on SARS. The seminar was hosted by the Department of Family Medicine, Yerevan State Medical University. Information support was realized through the Armenian Medical Association (http://www.armeda.am), the Fund for Armenian Relief's Fellows' Alumni Association and Salzburg Fellows (FARFAA-Salzburg, http://www.farfaa-salzburg.am). The number of participants reached 30 doctors and other medical specialists from different Yerevan City Policlinics. The participants of the seminar filled a brief Evaluation Questionnaire to inform us about their opinion and assessment of the seminar. Words of appreciation were heard from Dr. Michael Narimanov, Head of the Department of Family Medicine, who hosted the event at the Lecture Room and as well as from the seminar participants. They expressed their satisfaction
with the form and methods of the seminar and their hope that different
seminars will be organized in future.
SYMPOSIUM on Urological Causes of Male Infertility, Tbilisi Georgia Dear colleagues, Salzburg Medical Seminars International held a Satellite Symposium in Urology in Tbilisi, Georgia at the Sheraton Metekhi Palace hotel (Hall - "Dasi - Balavari") on June 20, 2003, from 1PM to 6PM. The topic of the Symposium is Urological Causes of Male Infertility.
The official language of the Symposium is English and Georgian (Presentations by Georgian Speakers will not be translated in English for the audience).
Faculty: Professor Wolfgang Aulitzky (Vienna, Austria), Dr. Shota Nishnianidze (andrologist, Tbilisi, Georgia) and Dr. Peter Tenke (Budapest, Hungaria).
A reception will follow for Salzburg Seminar Fellows at the Sheraton Metekni Palace (Restaurant "Karavan-Sarai") at 6PM on the same day. Participation is free of charge, travelling and accomodation expenses should be covered by participants. OSI and FARFAA dont provide any financial assistance.

SEMINAR: "Nephroblastoma, or Willms Tumor" (by Armine Galstyan, Salzburg Seminars Participant, April 2003) June 5, 2003, 3:30PM, at Uro-Nephrological Department, Arabkir Medical Center (30 Mamikonyants Street, 3rd floor)
REPORT: CARDIOLOGY DAYS IN VANADZOR, APRIL 25-26, 2003 On April 25-26, 2003, Fund for Armenian Relief Fellows' Alumni Association (FARFAA) - Salzburg Medical Program in association with Nork-Marash Medical Center and Hoffmann-La Roche representation in Armenia held a seminar on "The Actual Topics in Cardiology" in the city of Vanadzor, Armenia. Vanadzor is the third large city in Armenia with a population of about 100,000 people. This is one of the cities destroyed during the devastating earthquake on December 1988. The seminar comprehensively discussed the issues, concerning Myocardial Ischemic Disorders: Myocardial Infarction, Angina Pectoris and Coronary Artery Disease. Patient management, medications, invasive and surgical treatment methods were presented and discussed. There was a special announcement about the Salzburg Seminars, their goals and how to participate. Special newsletter was prepared by Dr Bella Grigoryan, Medical Coordinator, and Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan, Local Seminar Coordinator. Dr Anush Ordian's presentation was dedicated to Dilatrend, Cilasapril and Xenical, important medications for adequate treatment of heart disease. The organizers of the seminars are the FAR FAA-Salzburg Medical Seminars, Nork Marash Medical Center (the main cardiology center in Armenia) and Hoffmann-La Roche representatives in Armenia. The seminar's faculty was represented by Dr. Aram Nasarian (cardiologist, Nork-Marash Medical Center), Dr.Nara Gojabashian (cardiologist, Nork-Marash Medical Center), Dr. Ara Ananian (cardiosurgeon, Nork-Marash Medical Center, Salzburg fellow), Dr. Anush Ordian (Hoffmann-La Roche medical representative in Armenia), Dr Bella Grigoryan and Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan - FAR FAA-Salzburg representatives. The seminars were hosted by the Department of Cardiology, Vanadzor City Hospital No. 2. Information support was provided by the FARFAA-Salzburg Medical Programs (http://www.farfaa-salzburg.am). Printed materials were sponsored by the FARFAA-Salzburg and Hoffmann-La Roche. The number of participants was about 30 doctors. They represented several hospitals and policlinics in Vanadzor. The seminars had 5 hours during April 25, 2003 and 6 hours Patients' clinics and a Round Table afterwards on April 26, 2003. Words of appreciation were
said by Dr. Vanush Martirossyan, Head of the Cardiology Department,
Vanadzor City Hospital No. 2, who hosted the event. He expressed
his profound satisfaction with the form, language and methods
of organization of the seminar, as well as his hope that more

SEMINAR OF SUDECK SYNDROME On April 14, 2003, a seminar on Sudeck Syndrome took place at the ArBES medical centre. It was organized by Plastic Reconstructive Surgery & Microsurgery University Centre of University Hospital No. 1 in Yerevan, the Armenian Medical Association and the FARFAA-Salzburg group. The seminar was supported by the Department of Health of Yerevan Municipality. The seminar was attended by more than 15 plastic, trauma and orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists from several policlinics of Yerevan. The lecture was followed by active discussion with participation of all attending specialists. The participants were also asked to express their opinion about future seminars' topics.
